Annlee was a character with no future,
until she was freed at the price of 46000 Yen from "Kworks," one of two major
agencies specializing in the "industrial" production of "off shelf"
Mangas - figures designed for use in Japanese animation and comic books. Without any
psychological background, personal history, specific characteristics, attitudes or
abilities, Annlee was created to exist in any story, but with no chance of surviving any
of them. Her predetermined destiny was to fade away quickly or to simply die after a few
seconds or a couple of pages. By purchasing her copyright, the French artists Philippe
Parreno and Pierre Huyghe rescued Annlee from an industry which sooner or later would have
condemned her to death. Annlee You Proposes is a continuation of their work. It is
a contingent project, rooted in ambiguity, design, corrupted narrative and the aesthetic
of a parallel base of London’s commercial film produc-tion. Working in collaboration
with computer animation director Lars Magnus Holmgren, a film has been produced that works
like a trailer, a clip for a longer narrative. Semi-private meets semi-public in a gar-den
environment where Annlee searches for a way to understand the peculiarities of her origin
and begins a play with history that will continue once she is passed on to the next
artist.
Note: "Animations"
