| The short video titled Drum Solo/Solo
de Tamboris, in a sense, a sort of anti-animation. The movie begins with a long shot
of a motionless plaster figurine of a "dressed" pig playing the drums. As we
look at the image, we hear the sound of drums. Even if all along we are seeing that the
pig is solid plaster, it is almost impossible not to conclude that the pig is the one
making the sound. The viewer is the real animator. These minimal theatrical situations that I create are placed against an
empty, almost monochromatic background. This "intemporal" space allows for the
possible communication between dissimilar characters and the simultaneity of disparate
times. This video is a result of my experience with photography.
At the same time, video led me to a series
of large Polaroids, many of them conceived as animation stills. There are subtle changes
(movements) from one image to the next in diptychs or poliptychs. I am interested in the
relationship between things and their representation, and I am attracted by the inevitable
"mistakes" we make when we want to be precise in any description or definition.
I am aware that all perception is an interpretation and there is a distance between the
thing and the word that names it. The underlying concept is based on the intuition of a
different (liberating) order of things. |
