With the development of information
technologies, the question of interfacing content adequately becomes increasingly
important. Human-machine interaction in interrelated information contexts fundamentally
challenges semiotic orders, body politics and identity. Hikaru is a virtual
broadcaster technology. Hikaru represents the emergence of new bio-electronic
semiotics where machine languages are translated into human discourses by providing a
hyper real human interface. Hikaru ("pure light" in Japanese) evolved
from the tradition of simulation and animatronics in video games on one hand, on the other
she is a synthesized broadcaster constructed from bits of and pieces of codes and
algorithms. Hikaru is unique information being which lives in the world of data
streams. More than a replication of a human broadcaster Hikaru currently has 6
derivative bodies designed for various profiles of broadcasts in the spectrum from news to
entertainment. The concept of synthesis, which Hikaru addresses in the ART AND
SYNTHESIS SESSION, is based on the information on art events related to audio-visual
synthesis deployed on the World Wide Web. Through crossing art and synthesis strings Hikaru
will provide a living snapshot of politics of synthesis as represented in art and global
cultural activities.
Vladimir
