| I became interested in process as it
applied to my painting around 1990. At the same time I began learning about computer
programming. The initial impulse to use computers involved a desire to present all the
develop-mental phases that my images went through before completion. So my use of animation is related to time-lapse
photography more than character animation. This documentary aspect became more
interesting, I believe, when the animations became collaborative around 1996. All of the
sudden, it was less important for me to make images myself. I began to see my role more as
providing a framework for other people – whether artists or not – to be creative
and to confront new technology in the context of art. |
