Chen Zhen
12pm and 2pm: Tibetan Monk Drumming
Ceremony
On the
occasion of "Chen Zhen: a Tribute," Tibetan monks perform
ceremonial drumming to inaugurate Chen Zhen's sculpture Jue Chang -
Fifty Strokes to Each (1998). For this work, Chen stretched animal
skins over the flat surfaces of more than one hundred chairs and beds
collected from different parts of the world, creating makeshift drums
hung from a large wooden frame. The monumental installation is meant
for audiences play the drums throughout the duration of the
show. For the opening of the exhibition, a special ceremony
will be held featuring a percussion performance by Tibetan Monks.
