P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center is committed to offering easy and affordable ways
for school groups to visit our exhibitions. Guided tours are available for teachers and
K-12 students.
Artist-led Tour and Workshop: In this unique 2-hour program, groups are
led through the exhibitions by a P.S.1 artist. The artist-guides have exhibited at P.S.1
in the past or are one of the museum’s artists-in-residence. Rather than reciting
explanations and information, the artists highlight their own preferences and opinions,
and, when relevant, make references to their own work and art-making strategies. The
artists build engaging dialogues by encouraging tour participants to see and articulate
personal associations they find with the work. Catered to each group’s needs and
preferences, the focus and theme of the tours are determined by any interests the group
may suggest and by the artist who best matches those interests. The walk-through is then
followed by a more creative activity. Varying with the age and background of the
group’s participants, the artists develop art-making activities that stress the
importance of thinking and expressing oneself creatively. This unique opportunity to work
closely with a working artist provides for a memorable visit to the museum’s
exhibitions.
Reservations required. Available times are Wednesday through Sunday, 10am-6pm
