Chris Carter was born in 1953 in London,
England. In the mid-seventies he began experimental sound and music collaborations with
Cosey Tutti, Peter Christopherson and Genesis P-Orridge, which resulted in the formation
of the Throbbing Gristle, and the birth of the Industrial music phenomenon.

In 1982, when the Throbbing Gristle project ended, he started the Conspiracy International
record label with Cosey Fanni Tutti and worked as Chris & Cosey and CTI and soon moved
into creating video works as well as music. In the eighties, Carter toured internationally
and worked with numerous musicians and artists including Robert Wyatt, Annie Lenox and
Dave Stewart.

In 1994 Chris moved into journalism and regularly has technical articles and reviews
published in Sound On Sound magazine. Carter is also an accomplished graphic designer and,
in collaboration with Cosey, has in recent years produced a number of outstanding CD
covers, albums, posters and art pieces. Earlier this year, he released an album called
CAGED in collaboration with British electronic musician Ian Boddy.

audio works based upon my early 1970's analogue sound experiments at the studios of
Industrial Records in London.

The transmogrification of analogue hardware to digital software and the revision and
manipulation of the original sound patterns was a means to discover new found audio
possibilities and potentialities. These electronic ambient remixed tracks, which
constitute EAR ONE, have been specifically produced for Volume. Rewiring the past to
become the now.”
