GENESIS P-ORRIDGE was born in Manchester, England in 1950. He was a member of the Kinetic
action group Exploding Galaxy/Transmedia Exploration in 1969-70. He conceived and founded
the seminal British "performance art" group Coum Transmissions in August 1969.
He became a member of Throbbing Gristle in 1975, of Psychic TV in 1981, and of spoken
word/ambient theatre group Thee Majesty in 1999. He invented the term/genre
“Industrial Music” (with Monte Cazazza) on September 3rd, 1975. He has released
more than 200 CDs of experiments in music to date. He has worked and collaborated with
William S. Burroughs; Brion Gysin (inventor of "Cut-Ups"); filmaker Derek
Jarman; Dr. Timothy Leary among others.

As an early pioneer of Rave Movement in UK and USA, he has published thousands of
articles, texts, interviews covering the functional and metaphysical implications and
strategies of popular culture. He has also explored human behaviour, ritual, and
personality modification through the splintering of expectations in private situations to
create collaged “Sigils.” He currently lives in New York as an author, cultural
engineer/commentator and fine artist. A new exhibition of his paintings with Eric Heist
will be shown at Team Gallery, NYC February 2001. For more detailed information visit the

Thee Howler :

“Source material of this piece is a field recording of the Howler monkeys at L.A. Zoo
donated by Diane Koskie. Ears are merely fast filters to specific reactive brain centers
essential for primitive survival. Sound is received through the outer layers, the cellular
structures and liquids of the entire body in its totality. Metabolic frequencies trigger
hormonal responses and chemical memories, knit together individual fragments of extended
organisms expanding into unknown territories. 18 million bits of sensory information per
second are reduced to 11bits by the brain. Yet all is received. The group recalls all
previous perceptions and choices as its story, building the past in the present, choice by
choice. Only the future cannot exist. Change the way to perceive and change all memory.
The wailing of a million switches, eating time at will from an unknown possibility. A dawn
chorus amplifies the dawning of frustration at being fixed. Being immersed in flux.
Wounded and clustered for re-enforcement of expectation sound becomes a raw genetic
material spiraling around the secret tree, blasphemous, monstrous and weakened by
inherited maps of illusory environments. Inferno of souls as, trapped, they try to consume
solidity. “
