Yvonne Rainer and Sally Silvers

2pm in the Third Floor Main Gallery.

Early Rainer: 1960-70: Live dance performances and film of works by Yvonne Rainer, performed by Pat Catterson, Emily Coates, Patricia Hoffbauer, Keith Sabado, and Sally Silvers.
Yvonne Rainer is an American experimental choreographer and filmmaker whose attraction to dance began in the late 1950s. Rainer pinpoints the body as the source of movement with repetitive and patterned chorerography. Five of her early dance compositions—3 Seascapes (1962), Three Satie Spoons (1961), Trio A (The Mind is a Muscle, Part 1) (1966), Mat (1967) and Chair/Pillow (1969). Yvonne Rainer’s 1978 film of her signature solo Trio A (The Mind is a Muscle, Part 1) will accompany the performances.

4pm in the Third Floor Main Gallery.

Sally Silver's Surprise Score: When Sally Silvers moved to New York in the early 1980s to become a dancer, no company wanted her because of her unique and odd dance style. Instead Silvers decided to create assemblages of independent artists for each performance. For P.S.1, Silvers has assembled a group of dancers, choreographers, musicians, and writers who all lend their unique talents to the performance. This performance includes dancers/choreographers Mark Dendy, Patricia Hoffbauer, and Pooh Kaye, a film screening, a duet with writer Bruce Andrews, and more.

Free with admission.
